Marinas Mantel sorgt für gegensätzliche Reaktionen: Sack oder Mönchskutte nennen ihn die einen, total schön finden ihn die anderen. Immer wieder werde sie auf der Straße angesprochen wo sie ihn gekauft habe. Mir verrät sie das Geheimnis: bei Zara. Allerdings sei das schon eine Weile her und der Mantel in der Zwischenzeit aus dem Sortiment verschwunden.

Auf ihre Schuhe ist sie besonders stolz, die sind für 2 Euro vom Flohmarkt und die Ledertasche war genauso ein Glückstreffer aus dem Second Hand Laden. “Das Wichtigste an Klamotten ist, dass man sich in ihnen wohl fühlt”, findet Marina. Es gebe zwar total schicke Kleider, die aber einfach nicht zu ihr passen würden. So etwas würde sie sich dann nie kaufen.

Marina ist gerade zu Besuch in Konstanz. Nachdem sie hier ihren Bachelor gemacht hat, ist sie seit einigen Monaten in Düsseldorf an der Uni und studiert Medienkulturanalyse. Dort gebe es ein paar Kneipen und Clubs mehr als in Konstanz, die Uni sei dreimal so groß und sie fahre mit der U-Bahn hin, was schon ein anderes Gefühl sei als mit dem Bus. Ich glaube, sie vermisst Konstanz ein bisschen.

Marinas coat causes oppositional reactions: some name it bag or cowl while others are completely excited about it. Again and again she was asked in the streets where she had bought it from. She tells me the secret: in Zara. But it was some time ago and meanwhile the coat had vanished from the shop’s assortment.

Marina is especially proud of her shoes, which are from the flea market for 2 euros. The leatherbag was another lucky strike from the second hand shop. “Most important about clothes is that you feel well in it”, Marina tells me. There were very glamorous dresses indeed, but some would just not suit her. And she would never buy something like that.

Marina is in Constance for a visit right now. After she finished her Bachelor degree here she studies Medienkulturanalyse in Düsseldorf for a few months. There were some more bars and clubs than in Constance, the uni were three times as big and she went there by tube which were quite a difference to busses. I think she misses Constance a bit.

Wie lange sind eineinhalb Tage? Lange genug, um eine Bluse zu nähen. Jedenfalls wenn man so geübt ist wie Jasmin. Am teuersten daran seien die Knöpfe gewesen. Außerdem trägt sie eine Hose von H&M, Schuhe vom Flohmarkt und eine Tasche aus Paris.

Gelernt hat die 19-Jährige das Entwerfen und Nähen am Berufskolleg Radolfzell. Zumindest das, was man dabei lernen kann. Viel ist einfach eine Frage des Geschmacks und den hat man oder nicht. Kate Moss habe ihn zum Beispiel, wogegen die Marke Ed Hardy meilenweit davon entfernt sei. Und weiße Stiefel mit Schnallen, die seien auch ganz schwierig. “Schwierig” sei überhaupt alles, was gar nicht gehe oder auch “nett”.

Mode ist für Jasmin nicht nur ein Hobby, es sei ein Lebensgefühl. “Man macht sich doch so viele Gedanken darüber, vielleicht auch oft unbewusst”, meint sie. Deshalb möchte sie mit Rebecca zusammen in Berlin Modedesign studieren. Konstanz findet auch sie einfach schwierig.

How long lasts one and a half days? Just long enough to sew a blouse. Given that one is as skilled as Jasmin. The most expensive were the buttons. Apart from that she is wearing trousers from H&M, shoes from the flea market and a bag from Paris.

The 19-year-old learned to create and sew clothes at the Berufskolleg Radolfzell. At least what there is to be learned. A great deal matters good taste and that is something you have or you do not. Kate Moss did have it for example whereas the label Ed Hardy was light-years away from it. And white boots with buckles were also very delicate. “Delicate” were everything that is not working out at all or “nice”.

Fashion is not just a hobby for Jasmin it were an attitude to life. “You think so much about it, maybe unconsciously most of the time”, she says. That is why she wants to go to Berlin with Rebecca to study fashion design. Constance seems just to be delicate for her.

Wieso fällt Chris hier sofort auf? Wahrscheinlich weil er aus Berlin kommt. Er saß gerade 8,5 Stunden im Zug und kaum ist er draußen, wird er von mir angequatscht. “Extrem sauber ist das hier”, meint Chris und schaut vor sich auf den Boden. “Und so ruhig, richtig erholsam.” Dem Berliner gefällt es schon richtig gut hier. Mal sehen, ob das nach seinen 10 Tagen, die er hier sein wird, immer noch so ist.

Konstanz ist für Chris so eine Art Prämie. Der 19-Jährige arbeitet bei S.Oliver in Potsdam und weil er sich da ganz gut angestellt hat, ist er jetzt in der Filiale im Lago für die nächsten Tage.

Fast alles an ihm heute ist von H&M. Sonst natürlich von S.Oliver. Seine Sonnenbrille ist eine Marc Jacobs. Chris hat seine Lieblings-Läden in Berlin Mitte. Im Internet shoppt er gerne bei allsaints.

“Ich will mich abheben mit meinen Klamotten”, sagt Chris. “Ich will ja nicht rumrennen wie alle anderen, das ist doch langweilig. Außerdem spiegelt die Kleidung die Persönlichkeit wider.”

Why is Chris catching attention right away? Probably because he is from Berlin. He was sitting in the train fpr 8,5 hours and as soon as he is outside he got caught by me. “It is extremely clean here”, Chris says and looks at the street in front of him. “And very calm, really relaxing.” The one from Berlin already likes it here. We will see if this is still so after the 10 days he will spend here.

Konstanz is like a bonus. The 19-year-old is working for S.Oliver in Potsdam and because he is quite good they sent him to the branch in the Lago shopping center for the next days.

Nearly everything Chris is wearing is H&M today. Normally it is S.Oliver of course. His sunglasses are a Marc Jacobs. Chris has his favourite shops in the center of Berlin. In the internet he likes shopping at allsaints.

“Through my clothes I want to stand out from the crowd “, he says. “I do not want to look like everybody else. That is boring. Besides clothes reflect your personality.”

Nein, sie ist keine Studentin. Zhen hält Seminare in Finance und schreibt nebenher an ihrer Forschungsarbeit. Was sie lieber macht? Forschen, das bringt nämlich Geld. Für die acht Stunden wöchentlich im Seminarraum bekommt Zhen zero.

Seit Februar ist die 26-Jährige in Konstanz. Geboren wurde sie in Pingyao in China. Die historische Kulturstadt liegt  nach chinesischen Maßstäben in der Nähe von Beijing: rund 1000 Kilometer entfernt. Mit 19 ist Zhen mit ihren Eltern nach Atlanta in die USA ausgewandert. Dort ist sie erwachsen geworden, hat studiert und gelebt. Wenn sie jetzt ihre Freunde in Pingyao besucht, verstehen die sie oft nicht mehr. “Die Kulturen sind sehr unterschiedlich”, erzählt Zhen. Irgendwie denkt sie amerikanisch und sieht sich doch als Chinesin. “Cultural conflict” nennt es Zhen.

Ihre Klamotten kommen allesamt aus Korea. So etwa alle zwei Monate bestellt Zhen eine Ladung bei zipia.net. Dort holt sie sich auch Inspirationen, wie was kombiniert werden kann. Sie liebt es, besonders auszusehen, sich abzuheben. Dabei geht sie ganz nach einem “cute style”, den die Koreaner besonders lieben.

Damit fällt Zhen hier ganz schön auf. “Die Deutschen kleiden sich sehr konservativ. Die trauen sich zu wenig”, sagt sie. “Grau, weiß und schwarz, aber keine lebhaften Farben.” Langweilig, findet Zhen und schaut an sich herunter. Die Brosche, die sie heute trägt ist eine von über 20 Stück und die unauffälligste.

No, she is not a student. Zhen is teaching finance and is writing her research paper at the same time. What she prefers? Research, that is actually bringing money. For eight hours in the seminar room weekly Zhen gehts zero.

The 26-year-old is in Constance since February. She was born in Pingyao in China. The ancient cultural city is near Beijing - in Chinese measure: round1000 kilometers away. When she was 19 Zhen emigrated with her parents to Atlanta in the US. There she grew up, studied and lived. When she is now

visiting her friends in Pingyao they do not understand her anymore. “The cultures are very different”, Zhen tells me. Somehow she feels American and still identifies herself as Chinese. “Cultural conflict”, Zhen calls it.

Her clothes are from Korea altogether. About every two months she orders at zipia.net. There she gets inspiration as well how to combine with what. She loves looking special and different. All in the “cute style” that is very famous in Korea.

Doing so Zhen is attracting attention here. “German people are dressing quite conservative. They do not dare enough”, she says. “Grey, white and black but no lively colours.” Boring, Zhen thinks. The brooch she is wearing today is one of 20 and the least eye-catching one.

Abby`s große Liebe ist Moses - neben High Heels und den Hemden ihres Vaters. Moses ist schon etwas älter aber gerade das macht seinen Charme aus. Abby hat das schön abgenutzte Fahrrad heute Mittag auf dem Flohmarkt in Kreuzlingen gefunden, für nur 25 Franken. “Ich liebe alte Fahrräder”, erzählt die 17-jährige Kreuzlingerin. Moses ist für sie Fortbewegungsmittel, Hobby und Accessoire in einem.

Die Schülerin der Pädagogischen Maturitätsschule Kreuzlingen interessiert sich sehr für Mode. “Kleider machen Leute - das stimmt schon”, findet sie. Nach der Schule würde sie gerne Modedesign in Hamburg studieren. Ideen zu ihrem Styling holt sie sich im Internet, zum Beispiel bei lookbook, wo sich Leute auf der ganzen Welt mit ihrem Outfit vorstellen.

Wenn es ihr danach ist, greift Abby auch gerne mal bei ihrem Vater in den Kleiderschrank. So wie heute. Das Jeanshemd ist nämlich von ihm. “Das merkt der meistens gar nicht”, grinst sie. Ihre Sonnenbrille stammt vom Flohmarkt, genau wie ihre abgewetzte Ledertasche. “Ich steh auf Retro”, erklärt Abby.

Dass Abby in einer Band singt, erzählt sie so ganz nebenbei. Um ein Haar wären sie auf dem Open See Festival aufgetreten. Leider haben beim Voting dann doch ein paar Stimmen gefehlt. Dafür klappt es aber auf jedenfall im November in der Corso-Bar mit einem Auftritt. Wer vorher schon einmal reinhören möchte: hier geht es zu Adrian P. and The Cool Gang.

Abby`s big love is Moses - besides High Heels and her father`s shirts. Moses is a little older but that is what makes him charming. Abby found the worn-out bike this afternoon at the flea market in Kreuzlingen - for just 25 Swiss francs. “I love old bicycles”, the 17-year-old girl from Kreuzlingen tells me. For her Moses is all in one: vehicle, hobby and accessoire.

Fashion is very important for the student of the Pädagogischen Maturitätsschule Kreuzlingen. “Clothes make the man - that is true”, she says. After school she would like to study Fashion in Hamburg. She finds styling ideas in the internet, for example the website lookbook where people from all over the world present themselves in their outfits.

When it suits her Abby helps herself to her father`s clothes. Just like today. The jeans shirt belongs to him. “Most of the time he does not notice”, she smiles. Her sunglasses are from a flea market, just like her worn-out leather bag. “I go for retro”, Abby explains.

Abby mentions the fact that she sings in a band just by the way. Nearly they played at the Open See festival but unfortunately a few votes were missing. Anyway they have a gig at the Corso bar in November. For those who want to have a listen before, here is Adrian P. and The Cool Gang.
